This is where tribute is paid to those dogs that I have loved and lost. Some died in my care and others had to be placed for circumstances beyond our control. These dogs are the ones who have helped me understand the K-9 world better and made me a better pet owner. I have owned other dogs but these are the special ones!
This is lance our first Borzoi. He was such a good natured dog he never hurt even the smallest puppy and even got along with the goat! But, he was an ever present threat to cottontail rabbits as long as we lived on the farm. This picture was taken when he was about 5 months old. His breeder was Nadine Johnson from Colorado Springs. We would recommend her to any one looking for a Borzoi. She is honest and has some of the best show quality borzoi in the USA. We never showed Lance in conformation but he did earn his CD (companion dog title). He was a giant of a dog and weighed 150 pounds when fully mature. He died in 1999 at 10 years of age. He is missed!
This is a picture of Lance and Tiny. Tiny was my first Whippet. At the first fun match we took Lance to, I over heard a person behind me saying "My husband says he's tired of her killing chickens and us having to eat "pet stew". If she's not gone by tonight he's going to shoot her." I turned around to see my cousin's wife talking about Tiny. On the way home from the fun match we made a detour by their house and picked Tiny up. Between she and I it was love at first sight, between she and my husband it was not good. No matter how hard he tried Tiny mistrusted him. She was the first dog I put a CD on. When we moved to town I had to place her in another home as the time she was having to spend in the house with my husband was taking a toll on her. I loved her so much but made the decision that a good husband was more important than a good dog. It hurt so bad to say good-bye to such a lovely dog.
Our chow chow's, Ceasar (red) and Holly (Black), were the first dogs we bought after we got married. They are the dogs who got me interested in training and showing in obedience. I had been involved with shows as a kid but until I had my chows I didn't think I would show as an adult. I showed them at fun matches and had a great time. But I was told by a person who had been showing for years and I trusted that I couldn't compete with them if I had shaved them. (I shaved them every summer so they would be cooler and so they would dry faster after playing in their kiddie pool.) I believed her and so I never even tried to enter them in an AKC show. I know now that I should have investigated this matter further as she was mistaken in the advice she gave me and they were eleigible to compete in obedience trials even if shaved. These dogs have a special place in my heart !
Those who have gone before !
